Google Fit Replacement: How to Save and Migrate Your Data to Health Connect
Google deprecated Google Fit and replaced it with Health Connect as the central hub for sharing data between Android apps in 2024. While the transition is scheduled to be fully completed by mid-2025, many users have already lost the ability to directly sync their data with Google Fit. Keep reading to learn how to successfully migrate and keep your data safe.
Is Google Fit Still Supported?
While it is being phased out as the data syncing hub for Android users, the Google Fit dashboard can still be used to view health & wellness data, including data collected from other apps via Health Connect. For instance, to see data from their personal MedM health records in Google Fit (and vice versa), users must first sync their Google Fit app with Health Connect. Below, we have summarized the key steps and migration instructions.
How to Transfer Your Data from Google Fit to Health Connect:
- Download the Health Connect app from the Google Play Store (it comes pre-installed on newer Pixel phones and is part of the operating system starting with Android 14)
- Open the Google Fit app
- In Google Fit, tap Profile → Settings, then under Health Connect Settings, turn on Sync Fit with Health Connect
Establishing this link will allow Google Fit to access data from Health Connect. For MedM users who have been syncing their health data with Google Fit, we recommend to first migrate all existing data from Google Fit to Health Connect and then switch their MedM app data sync from Google Fit to Health Connect.
MedM Health Diary and Health Connect Data Syncing:
- Open the MedM app menu
- Select Data Sync
- Select Health Connect
- Tap the up or down arrows next to the data types you wish to export to or import from Health Connect

Why Is Google Fit Being Replaced?
While we can only speculate, transparency in data management and the security of user data may have been key factors driving this change. Unlike Google Fit, which operates as a cloud service, Health Connect is device-centric, meaning all data is stored locally on the user’s smartphone rather than in their Google account. The data is also encrypted for additional security.
Health Connect acts as a true hub, allowing users to manage their fitness and health app connections and associated data from a single control center. Users can decide which apps can supply data, and which can read, display, and store it. Newly connected apps are only allowed to access 30 days of data history in Health Connect. Additionally, the Health Connect dashboard allows users to view which apps have recently accessed the service and identify idle apps, signaling that their access rights might need to be revoked.
